Yet their responsibilities remain unchanged, with little opportunity to apply what they have learned. Months later, the organization looks outside for that same expertise. The investment in learning has produced a skill, but not a route for using it.

That disconnect leaves enterprise learning short of its purpose. Deloitte research finds that 81% of executives consider internal mobility important, while only 49% feel ready to act on it. Recognizing the value of movement within the organization is not the same as having the mechanisms to make it happen.

What happens after the LXP (Learning Experience Platform)?

LXP helps employees develop their capabilities. The next challenge is connecting that development to work that needs those capabilities. An internal talent marketplace provides this connection, bringing employees into consideration for vacancies, projects, and stretch assignments according to the skills they can contribute.

Adoption is gathering pace. SHRM’s 2025 Talent Trends reports that U.S. adoption of internal talent marketplaces rose from 25% to 35% within a year. Gartner also projects that roughly a third of recruiting effort will move toward internal talent as hiring costs increase. Together, these trends suggest that internal marketplaces are moving beyond experimentation and into everyday talent planning.

The value extends beyond recruitment savings.

Filling a vacancy from within can reduce recruitment fees and shorten the time needed to settle into a role. It also keeps knowledge of the organization within the business. For employees, a visible next step can make staying a more attractive choice than seeking growth elsewhere. The return therefore includes both hiring efficiencies and stronger retention.

These benefits depend on reliable skills data. A marketplace cannot make useful connections if employee capabilities are unmapped or opportunities are difficult to discover. Learning and mobility therefore need a shared foundation: the learning platform develops capabilities, skills data records them, and the marketplace connects them with work where they can be applied.

Infosys Wingspan is built to support this progression, connecting learning with internal career movement, retention, and the ability to fill roles using talent already in the organization.

Before searching outside for the next capability, it is worth looking at what employees have already learned. The opportunity is to recognize that expertise and give it a place to grow before it leaves the business.

A completed course is only the beginning.
