Apple Vision Pro: Possibilities today and beyond

Introduction

In my previous article, I wrote about Apple’s Vision Pro which was launched at WWDC this year. I also tried to highlight its features that you would have also seen in Apple WWDC videos, related blogs, and news sites. Here in this article, I would like to mention some of the possible areas in which Vision Pro may be used today or maybe sometime in the future.

Possibilities with Vision Pro Today

At WWDC we saw Vision Pro being used in areas like Communication, Entertainment, and Gaming. These are some of the use cases where the supported content is available or will be available by early next year after Vision Pro is available for sale.

The Vision Pro can be used for FaceTime calls where the user’s Persona will be visible to other users. This Persona will reflect the user’s expression also.

For entertainment, Apple has already announced a partnership with Disney and content will be optimized to offer an immersive viewing experience with spatial sound effects to users. The shows will be available on Disney+ on day one of the availability of Vision Pro. Panoramic photos and videos will wrap around the user to make them feel at that very moment in space and time.

Apple has already announced that over 100 Arcade games that are currently available on iOS will be made available on Vision Pro. Gamers will be able to connect Bluetooth game controllers to the Vision Pro.

Most of the apps that we use daily will be supported by Vision Pro. These are not limited to Apple default apps like Safari, Mail, Facetime, Messages, Apple TV, Photos, Music, etc. But there is a huge list of third-party apps that are already confirmed to be supported on Vision Pro by their creators. These include Disney+ (as already shown in WWDC), Microsoft Office Apps like Word, Excel, and Teams, and communication apps like Zoom and Webex. This is just the beginning but eventually, I will not be surprised if every app on iOS is supported on Vision Pro in the immediate future.

Till now we have just gone through a limited list of possibilities that are expected today. Now, let us see what we may see soon.

Possibilities with Vision Pro in the Near Future

Vision Pro promises to provide a fully immersive experience to the users. Today the content that can provide such an experience might be limited but since such a device now exists, time is not far when content creators will produce really engaging content for users. Let us see what the future may hold for us.

Medical

VisionPro could be used to train surgeons, diagnose patients, and provide remote medical care. For example, a surgeon could use VisionPro to overlay a patient’s anatomy during surgery, giving them a better view of the surgical site and reducing the risk of complications. A doctor could use VisionPro to remotely examine a patient in a remote location. Since these are related to medical science, such use cases may not be under trial for some time but possible in this decade itself.

Virtual Engagements

A teacher could use VisionPro to take students on virtual field trips to historical sites or museums, allowing them to experience these places in a way that is not possible in the real world. A salesperson could use VisionPro to show potential customers a virtual tour of a new product or service, giving them a better understanding of how it works and how it could benefit them. A real estate agent could use VisionPro to give potential buyers a virtual tour of a property, allowing them to see it from the inside and out without having to visit it in person. VisionPro has the potential to revolutionize the way we work. With its ability to create immersive virtual environments and enable real-time collaboration, VisionPro could allow us to work from anywhere in the world and collaborate with colleagues from all over the globe.

Astronomy

Astronomers could use VisionPro to explore the universe in a more immersive way. For example, they could use VisionPro to take a virtual tour of the Milky Way galaxy or to explore the surface of Mars. Educators could use VisionPro to teach students about astronomy in a more engaging way. For example, they could use VisionPro to show students the constellations or to explain how stars are born. A team of astronomers could use VisionPro to create a virtual model of a black hole. This model could be used to study the behavior of black holes and to test theories about their formation. Who knows that the ideas of multiverse and parallel universes that are still in fiction movies come to life with such models and experiments!

Conclusion

I believe that with every new technological advancement, the possibilities multiply exponentially. I am well aware that to most of you, the above all points seem to be no more than a writer’s imagination but if you ever come across this blog again after a few years, I am sure you would already be using some of these. Let’s wait and see what the future holds for us!

  • As mentioned, the panoramic experience of spatial videos through Apple pro vision is going to be extraordinary.
It is going to be completely hand-free and thus it can be effectively used in various fields in the future. Hopefully, the writer’s imagination will be soon real.
