Recently, Black Girls Code, a nonprofit championing computer science education for Black girls and gender nonconforming youth, launched a contest called “Build a Beat Challenge with Ciara.” Sponsored by Infosys Foundation USA, the challenge invited students aged 13-18 to code their own song, blending their creativity with sounds from popular Hip-Hop, R&B and rap artists. The winners would also vie for a chance to meet global superstar Ciara in a video call and win tech prizes.
The Challenge exemplifies how innovation and culture can intersect to empower and inspire the next generation. It not only celebrates the creativity and technical skills of young coders but also echoes the broader narrative of Black History Month – honoring the transformative power of Black American culture and its impact on society.
